A former Queensland police officer accused of leaking official secrets from police reports and unlawfully accessing information in the police database has fronted court.

Briohny Lee Granzien, 41, appeared at Brisbane Arrests Court on Tuesday morning for the first time, charged with two counts of disclosing official secrets and four counts of computer hacking.

She has since resigned from the Queensland Police Service.

According to court documents, Granzien “unlawfully communicated information, namely details from a police report” on July 28, 2015, which she had a duty to keep secret.

She is further accused of leaking a “classified police intelligence document” on February 8, 2021, which, again, she had a duty to keep secret.

Granzien also allegedly used a police computer to access a QPS database to “obtain information for another”. There is no information regarding who Granzien passed the confidential information onto.

Police allege she committed these acts of computer hacking four times - August 19, 2017; January 4, 2020; January 28, 2020; and February 5, 2021.

Granzien was charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission on May 26 after a joint investigation between the CCC and Queensland police. The matter was first identified by the police and then referred to the CCC.

Granzien’s case was mentioned briefly in Brisbane Arrests Court on Tuesday, and was adjourned to Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 11.

She was granted bail without objection from police prosecutors.
