A good Samaritan has died after being stabbed in the stomach while trying to stop a bike thief in Bull Creek on Sunday.

Petr Levkovskiy, 42, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition after pulling his car over on Camm Avenue around 10.20am to assist a group of boys chasing a teenager who had stolen one of their bikes.

Nine News Perth reported the teen had moments earlier pushed the younger boy off his bicycle while he was riding with friends.

WA Police major crime detective superintendent, Leo Ricciardi, said police had arrested a 15-year-old boy on Monday afternoon in relation to the stabbing, but were yet to press charges.

“[Levkovskiy] offered to assist and recover the push-bike,” he said.

“He drove around the area with his wife, a short time later he believed he spotted the push-bike and a male riding it, so he approached that male and confronted him. An altercation took place and as a result the 42-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to hospital and he died last night of his injuries.”

Ricciardo said the victim was married with a teenage daughter.

“You don’t expect that something like this is going to happen when you’re just trying to assist some young kids that have had their bike stolen,” he said.

“It’s an absolute tragedy for the family and just a reminder that you need to be aware of your surroundings when you’re trying to help someone.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by a family friend to raise funds for Levkovskiy’s funeral. It’s understood he worked in the oil and gas industry.

“Our thoughts and prayer go to Petr’s family, his beautiful wife Anna, his son and his daughter. As you can imagine they are absolutely devastated,” Anastassiya Onanchenko said.

“We will always remember Petr as a kind, wonderful friend, colleague, husband and father. His warm spirit and generosity was joy to all who knew him.”

Neighbour Diya Shivlani said the incident had left residents on the street shaken.

“We see just across the road there’s a person lying on the floor, bleeding, they’re holding an ice pack and this person is just crying out in pain,” she said.

“This is just ridiculous that this happens in daylight over a bike.

“There’s a burglar on the loose in Bull Creek with a knife and the boy [whose bike was stolen] is completely shaken.”

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam vision regarding the incident to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperswa.com.au
