By Nick Berney

There aren’t many runners more deserving of a win at Wyong on Thursday than lightly raced four-year-old Pokerjack.

The Tash Burleigh-trained galloper has run second in his past three starts and gets his chance to break through for his maiden win in the Gosford RSL 3YO Maiden Handicap (1100m).

The gelding has come back improved this preparation and beat the rest easily last start at Hawkesbury in a high-rating race. He did it on both ends that day, leading at a fast pace and still sprinting one of the fastest final 600m splits of the entire day in 34.20.

Additionally, the winner Yankees has since run honestly at the metropolitan level and was well fancied in the market.

Although he hasn’t stretched out to this distance before, he will roll forward and give a sight.

The key danger is Oakfield Blossom, another on-pace runner with a strong starting price profile.

She’ll undoubtedly improve with fitness and was solid first-up at Tamworth after racing wide throughout.

The Star FM 104.5 Maiden Handicap (1600m) is an open affair, and South represents value.

The three-year-old gelding brings a profile that suggests he is ready to run a career peak performance. Further, he was unsuited by the pace of the race last start at Newcastle 33 days ago and ran on well.

Additionally, the form out of that race has been proven with a subsequent winner and three placegetters.

The Sam Kavanagh-trained galloper finally gets a race with an anticipated genuine tempo, and he has improved each run throughout his career.

Another progressive type in Sulmaher may be ready to take the next step after being backed in from $13 to $9 last start at Hawkesbury but having no luck in the final straight.

The Chris Waller-trained galloper ran hidden sectionals relative to his rivals and expect him to settle closer.

It’s worth noting that apprentice Bailey Wheeler partners Commander Bell in The Bella Group BM 64 Handicap (1350m).

He has won on 12 of his past 100 rides at a profit on turnover of 2.9%.
