Managing your subscription

How can I change or upgrade my subscription package or billing term?

To upgrade or change your subscription, simply log in and follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Manage your subscription' from the quick links on the My Account homepage or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab.
  3. Choose a new package by selecting the 'Change Package' tab and click 'Save'.
  4. You will receive a confirmation email with details of the change.

You can also choose to be billed annually to receive a 10% discount on your subscription.

If you purchase a home delivery subscription, please note it can take up to 10 days to coordinate with your local newsagent for delivery to commence.

How do I update my contact, billing or payment details?

To update or change your details, simply log in and follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select your option from the quick links on the My Account homepage or use the navigation tabs at the top of the page.
  3. Ensure you select 'Save changes' after making updates to your details.

When does my subscription renew?

Our subscription packages are ongoing and automatically renew, there are three easy ways to find out the renewal date of your subscription.

  1. Login to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au. Select 'Manage your subscription' from the quick links on the My Account homepage or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab to view your subscription details.
  2. Check the start date listed on your confirmation email you received at the beginning of your subscription.
  3. Contact our customer service team by submitting a request or phone 13 66 66.

How can I cancel my subscription?

We hate to see you go, but if you'd like to cancel your subscription you can do so at any time. Simply contact our customer service team by submitting a request or phone 13 66 66.

Please note that at least 72 hours notice is required in advance of your next billing date. The cancellation will become effective at the end of your current billing period, so you can continue to enjoy the full benefits of your subscription until then.

If you have an automatic monthly renewal subscription, please note that this subscription is non-refundable and billing will stop from your next payment cycle upon cancellation.

If you have a prepaid subscription, you will be refunded with a pro rata refund for the remaining period.

How can I see when payments are scheduled or completed?

To view your payment schedule or history, simply log in and follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select the 'Billing Information' tab at the top.
  3. You can view and download past invoices from here. Monthly and annual subscriptions occur on the same date so you can see when your next payment will take place.

What's included in my subscription?

To view your subscription inclusions, simply log in and follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Manage your subscription' from the quick links on the My Account homepage or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab.
  3. Here you'll be able to see 'My Package' for your subscription inclusions.

To get the most from your subscription, view all your subscription features and benefits.

How can I compare other subscription packages?

To compare subscription packages, simply log in and follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Manage your subscription' from the quick links on the My Account homepage or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab.
  3. View all packages by selecting the 'Change Package' tab.

Annual subscriptions also receive a 10% discount on the subscription price.

How do I get a copy of my payment invoice?

You can view your invoices in My Account. Simply log in and follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select the 'Billing Information' tab at the top.
  3. You can view and download past invoices from here.

Today's Paper

What is Today's Paper?

Today's Paper is the digital version of the daily printed newspaper and is available exclusively to Premium subscribers.

How can I access Today's Paper?

Log in to smh.com.au and navigate to the top right menu to access Today's Paper.

How can I access Today's Paper features?

There are a range of features available on Today's Paper. You can listen to the news with the read out loud feature or access recent editions by exploring 'Back Issues'.

How can I access back issues of the paper?

If you've missed an edition, simply click on the 'Back Issues' button at the top left of the Today's Paper page to see editions extending back six months.

Newspaper deliveries

My newspaper wasn't delivered today. What should I do?

We know that going a day without your morning paper can be frustrating. If yours wasn't delivered, you can contact our customer service team by submitting a request or phone 13 66 66.

We can compensate you for missed paper delivery with a credit on your subscription. However, as per our terms and conditions, missed deliveries must be reported within three days.

I am going away. How do I temporarily suspend my newspaper delivery?

Temporarily suspending your newspaper delivery is easy. To let us know your holiday dates, simply log in and follow the steps below to suspend your paper delivery.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Suspend your delivery' from the quick links on the My Account homepage, or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab.
  3. Enter your suspension dates by scrolling to the 'Going Away?' section and then click 'Save changes'.

Please remember that 72 hours notice is required for suspension requests. You will not be charged for the duration of your suspension.

What is the maximum length of time that I can suspend my delivery?

You can suspend your paper delivery for up to 60 days free of charge.

How much notice is required to suspend my delivery?

Please note that our customer service team requires 72 hours notice to action your suspension request.

Will I still be able to access the Herald website during the suspension period?

Yes, you can stay up to date wherever you are with unlimited digital access to smh.com.au as well as Today's Paper, your digital version of the daily newspaper.

Will I be charged for my subscription if I suspend my paper delivery?

No refunds will be issued, however you will receive a credit to your account for your nominated suspension period.

Why didn't I pay my subscription this month when I suspended my paper delivery?

You will not be billed for your suspension period and a credit will be applied to your following bill. If your suspension period falls over your regular renewal date, you will not be billed for that month and the outstanding amount will be appended to the following month's bill, minus the suspension credit.

I have moved. How can I update my delivery address?

To let us know you have moved, simply log in and follow the steps below to update your address.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Change your delivery address' from the quick links on the My Account homepage, or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab.
  3. Enter your new address by scrolling to the 'Delivery Details' section and then click 'Save changes'.

Please note it can take up to 10 days to coordinate with your new local newsagent for deliveries to recommence. Alternatively, you can contact our customer service team who can action the request within three days.

I have just subscribed. When will I receive my first copy of the newspaper?

Newspaper subscriptions can take up to 10 days to coordinate with your local newsagent for deliveries to commence.

How do I get home delivery of the newspaper?

If you are on a digital subscription you can upgrade to receive home delivery of the Herald. Simply log in and follow the steps below to upgrade your subscription.

  1. Log in to My Account, located in the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Manage your subscription' from the quick links on the My Account homepage or navigate to the 'Subscriptions' tab.
  3. Choose a new package by selecting the 'Change Package' tab, enter your delivery address and click 'Save'.
  4. You will receive a confirmation email with details of the change.

Please note it can take up to 10 days to coordinate with your local newsagent for deliveries to commence.

Can I access Today's Paper on the Herald app?

Yes, Today's Paper is available across all your devices including the Herald app. Simply tap 'Browse' to view the daily digital edition of the paper.

How do I download the Herald app and login?

To download the Herald app for iOS or Android, simply follow the below steps.

  1. Search for 'the Herald' in the App Store or Google Play and download to your device.
  2. Tap 'Browse' from the home screen to access the settings menu, found in the top right corner.
  3. Login by entering your email address and password to unlock unlimited access to award-winning news wherever you go.

Can I access crosswords and sudoku on the app?

Your favourite puzzles are available on the Herald app exclusively for Premium subscribers. Simply tap 'Browse' from the homepage and challenge yourself with Daily Crosswords and Daily Sudoku.

Do I have to log in?

Yes, logging in ensures your news access is never interrupted and allows you to manage your subscription through My Account at any time.

To log in on your desktop, go to the top right of smh.com.au, click 'Log in', and enter the username and password you created when you subscribed.

How do I log in across all my devices?

Log in across all of your devices by following the steps below.

The Herald website
  1. Click on 'Log in' in the top right of smh.com.au.
  2. Enter the username and password you created when you subscribed and activated your digital access, and click 'Log in'.
The Herald app
  1. Tap 'Browse' from the home screen.
  2. Tap settings found in the top right corner.
  3. Tap 'Log in' and enter your email address and password you created when you subscribed.

I am logged in so why am I seeing 'Subscribe now' or a notification saying I have reached my article limit?

If you are a subscriber and you're seeing subscription prompts, it is likely that you are not logged in.

To double check, have a look in the top right corner of smh.com.au. If the button says 'Log in' or 'Subscribe', then you are not logged in.

You can log in by entering your email address and the password you created when you subscribed and activated access.

Remember that you need to log in to each device that you are using. A maximum of six sessions is allowed at any time.

How can I see articles written by a specific author?

To see all of the articles written by a specific author, simply enter the journalist's name into the search box in the left menu. Alternatively, you can click on the journalist's name at the top of an article they have written.

How can I see articles written about a specific topic?

You can view all of the articles that cover a particular issue or find stories related to that topic by clicking on the topic tag at the bottom of the article.

How do I post comments on the site?

Join the conversation and submit a comment on an article. To make a comment you will need to ensure you are logged in. Once logged in, click on the 'Post comment' button to create a screen name.

Subscription benefits

How do I sign up to a newsletter?

You can sign up to newsletters via My Account by following the steps below.

  1. Log in to My Account from the top right menu of smh.com.au.
  2. Select 'Manage your newsletters' from the quick links on the My Account homepage or navigate to the 'Newsletters' tab.
  3. Here you can sign up to the newsletters of your choice.

How do I opt out from a newsletter?

To opt out from a newsletter, simply scroll to the bottom of the email and click the 'unsubscribe' link found in the footer. You will receive a confirmation email once you have opted out.

Alternatively, subscribers and registered users can log in to My Account and follow the steps above for 'How do I sign up to a newsletter' to manage your newsletter preferences.

My newsletters are not being delivered, what do I do?

If you are not receiving email newsletters, there could be several different causes. Please try the following:

  1. Find your spam or junk mail folder. If the messages are in that folder, you will need to move them back into your inbox and mark the messages and/or the sender nameofnewsletter@email.smh.com.au as a safe sender or a contact.
  2. If you do not find your newsletters in a spam or junk folder, contact your service provider (or IT resources if corporate) to see if there is an additional layer of protection applied.
